Government plans wireless security tracking of Nigerian studentsThe Federal Government is implementing a programme for wireless monitoring of students to stem the rate of truancy and kidnappings nationwide, companies implementing the project for the Ministry of Education have announced.

U.S.-based East Coast Diversified Corporation (ECDC), through its subsidiary EarthSearch Communications, Inc., has announced it received purchase order and shipment to NairaNet Technology, Ltd. for wireless pilot project with Nigeria’s Ministry of Education to improve security and class attendance at schools nationwide, the company said in a statement.Under the programme, EarthSearch “LogiBoxx” integrated GPS/RFID system, in conjunction with NairaNet
Technology, has developed a network to wirelessly monitor student attendance and access control at Nigerian schools nationwide.

The LogiBoxx technology will provide school authorities with not only access to real-time information on a particular student’s class attendance, which would be useful for school administrators to take proactive steps against truancy, but would also enhance access control and security at schools to prevent kidnappings across the country.CEO, ECDC, Kayode Aladesuyi says, “our technology and the solutions we offer can be a game changer in improving access control and security, while improving class attendance and enhance learning in Africa’s largest economy.”he adds that, “in addition to Nigeria, we will also look to deploy these student monitoring systems for other school districts around the world to showcase how they can implement our technology to combat poor student attendance and security.”EarthSearch Solar Powered GPS and RF readers avoid power shortage issues which are a common occurrence in Nigeria.
